Decoy Carving

IMG_20190724_090501507 (1).jpg

Steve carves gunning decoys using materials such as basswood, northern white cedar, tupelo, and cork. His wooden-bodied decoys can be hollowed or left intact.

The gallery below showcases several of the species he carves and hunts. If there is a species you'd like to have him carve, reach out at stpapp34@gmail.com.

Steve also teaches youth carvers at his elementary school in western Wisconsin. Typically, some twenty-four to thirty youth carve and bring their finished decoys to the Minnesota Decoy Collectors show each February. This year, they'll be carving ringneck ducks.

In years past, they've done bluewing teal, widgeon, wood ducks, and black ducks.
